I work as assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Neuropsychology at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. The Department of Psychiatry and Neuropsychology is part of the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML). My position falls under the School for Mental Health and Neuroscience (Division 2: Mental Health).
I was born in Aachen, Germany, moved to the United States when I was 16, and then spent the next 11 years of my life in the United States, first studying psychology, but then switching my focus entirely to statistics/psychometrics. After receiving my Ph.D. in 2004 from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, I moved back to Europe and started working at Maastricht University.
As a statistician, my research is focused on comparing existing and developing new methods for the analysis of data generated in various fields of research. My primary interest lies on the statistical methods used for meta-analyses, but I am interested more generally in mixed-effects models as used for the analysis of longitudinal and multilevel/hierarchical data. Within the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology, I support my colleagues in their research on the mechanisms through which interactions between individuals and their environments contribute to the development of major psychiatric disorders and somatic comorbidity.
